NAPLAN Preparation Program

What is NAPLAN?

National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a national test held for all students in Australia in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

The Literacy component assesses a student’s capabilities in:

  • Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation)

  • Reading Comprehension

  • Writing

The Numeracy component evaluates a child’s skills in:

  • Numbers

  • Space & Geometry

  • Measurement, chance & data

  • Patterns & Algebra

Questions are either multiple-choice or require a short written response. The genre of the Writing task will change to a persuasive style of writing from 2011.

Individual student performance on each test is shown on national achievement scales from Year 3 to Year 9. Six bands are reported for each year level. The second bottom band at each year level will represent the national minimum standard for students at that year level. The national minimum standard indicates only basic literacy and numeracy skills for that particular year level.

When do the exams take place?

Exams are held every year in the month of May.

Why is the NAPLAN important?

  • The tests identify particular areas of concern or weakness in both literacy and numeracy.

  • Test results allow students to compare their level of understanding with students across the nation at their year level.

How can CAPRA help prepare students for the NAPLAN?

  • Our NAPLAN holiday preparation program helps students familiarise themselves with the style and format of the NAPLAN exam, thereby increasing their confidence and performance.

  • We offer exam tips and techniques to help students maximise their test marks.

Our holiday NAPLAN preparation program takes place in the Summer Holidays and Term 1 holidays.
